Default [180.08] horrible gl performance (glxgears = 3fps!)

Ok, xv (with kde) and kde4 performance have improved greatly in 180.08, but now when starting x, I get this:

[ 100.667968] NVRM: nv_kern_mmap: invalid offset: 0x0006c000 @ 0x0000000004ff0000 (PCI)

in my logs and gl performance SUCKS. I mean I can't run any gl apps well. Why? I run defaults now in 180.08. I run a large display (2560x1600) and have a 8800gts w/ 384 megs of ram if this has any possibility of having to do with it. Using 177.* and before is not an option as kde4 performance will suck and this shouldn't be a trade-off.

Did you ever fix this? I have the same problem

EDIT: 9800GT Kernel 2.6.27, 2.6.28
Arch linux
Intel Core 2, 64-bit

0.6 fps in glxgears...

Everything works fine with 177

Doesn't happen to me anymore on 180.22....

It simply went away one day it seems. Probably some library changed in a package upgrade which stopped the exploiting of the bug in question.

Did you happen to be overclocking your card during the time this issue was caused?
Even by a script?

Using the earlier 180.xx drivers works fine on many cards until you enable overclocking then the card goes downhill like 1000%.
I'm curious if this problem was overclock related like everyone elses.

For some reason upgrading module-init-tools from 3.4 to 3.5 fixed this.

I may have been underclocking at the time (I have a superclocked evga card and regretted the purchase). underclocking settings where saved from 177 series (messing with clocking 188 = hardlock with crazy colors). Anyway I did stop underclocking and now run at the 576 mhz my card defaults to.

Yea any change to the clock speed in the 180.xx series is seriously borking things.

If you leave them alone the drivers work mostly fine, but even one mhz up or down and bam flatline.
