I'm testing in miro and xine-ui. Miro has no sound and non-accelerated video with h264. xine-ui won't play h264 at all. mpeg2 plays with both but I don't have anything HD to test.

What could I be doing wrong?

Please post the output of xine --verbose=2 yourfile. Also check which video_out plugin is selected in .xine/config

I don't have a video_out in .xine/config at all but I have:

video.driver:vdpau

The output from that xine command is huge. There's a lot of:

demux_ts PID 0x1100: corrupted pes encountered

It plays back perfectly in mplayer.

Without a full log (just attach it as text file) we really can't help you.

Happy to post it, just didn't want to spam the board.

log.txt is from the Trading Places Blu-Ray and log2.txt is from the Iron Man Blu-Ray. I own both and both are h264. Trading Places only shows a blocky mess and Iron Man shows the video but there is a shifting red and green cast over everything. Neither has sound.

I didn't attach a log for The Dark Knight mpeg2 DVD (standard definition) but it plays perfectly.

works well here, kaffeine+xine-vdpau is much stable than mplayer-vdpau.

Hm, the demux errors don't look good. Do the files play well with mplayer-vdpau?
Could you provide short sample clips?
Maybe you want to join #xine-vdpau on freenode, this would make tracking easier for us!

I have to admit all files play perfectly in mplayer-vdpau for me and I haven't gotten sound or clear video from any HD file with xine-vdpau. Do my versions of any other packages matter?

How can I crop a sample clip?

I just checked with #xine-vdpau and nobody is there at the moment.
