Which version of the Nvidia driver are you using?

I have an Asus M3N78-EM mainboard with integrated 8300 graphics and HDMI out.
In order to get sound via HDMI to work I had to install a newer version of the Nvidia driver than was available in the OpenSuse repository at the time (177.xx.xx I think).
I also had to upgrade to alsa 1.0.18 to get it to work.

Wouldn't that mean that it's supposed to not have a separate audio device in the system, but you rather loop the output of your normal sound card into the HDMI interface?

I'm not 100% sure here, so that's why I use question marks...

I use the 180.2 Nvidia driver.

The mainboard dosent have a hdmi, the Nvidia graficcard is supposed to be hooked up with the mainboard spdif. Its a normal pciexpress card with dvi,vga and hdmi

then setting the sound to work has nothing to do with the nvidia card, just set up your pc to output to spdif as you would normally...

all your card does is passing straight through the spdif digital signal over hdmi, the nvidia card doesn't get involved in the process.
