Default problem with video in dual screen mode

Hi,

I have a Geforce 7100 based motherboard and used nvidia drivers.
When I launch a X server only on my TV (1920x1080), I have no problem and I can play a video on tv.

When I use the twinview dual screen mode (1680x1050 for monitor and always 1920x1080 for tv), the video on tv has problem.
It's hard to explain. Often (about every 5/6s or more), I see an horizontal line which comes for top to bottom, as if the display is refreshed.
I search (in french) and found users who had this problem but no solution.

This problem is due to the dual screen since it works perfectly with only the tv.
How can I solve this ?

Default Re: problem with video in dual screen mode

I just encountered the exact same problem! I use dual monitors (LCD @ 1920x1200; CRT @ 1600x1200) and the tearing only occurs on the LCD @ 1920x1200. I have tried turning Sync to VBlank on and off, I even rolled back the driver to 180.11 (when I noticed it happening I had 180.22 installed).

This is very frustrating!

EDIT: I just tested again and it only seems to be happening with VLC. Xine and mplayer have no problems at all with the tearing/sync. I have tried various video output modules in VLC as well, but none fix the problem (and OpenGL output video module in VLC causes an instant crash everytime).

do you have compiz enabled? (effects) if yes, turn it off.

if no, with nvidia-settings under xvideo-sync-to-vblank, you can select which display device to sync to .

EDIT *SOLVED*
driver was using PCI mode not AGP for some reason seems others have had the problem and NVIDIA seem aware
http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=118328

can tell by using 'nvidia-settings' and checking on the GPU 0 - (GeForce xxxxx) dropdown
my Bus Type: was 'PCI 1:0:0' not 'AGP 8X'
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
To make things more complicated I have the same problem but with only a single display LCD @ 1920x1200 using vlc and mplayer.
I find it is more noticeble on 720p h264 vids than smaller less demanding files

Geforce 6800GT
kernel 2.6.28
driver 180.22
x-server 1.5.3

Not running compiz but composite extension is enabled in the x-server as driver default
