Random freezes w/MX440

Randomly my screens will freeze up. I can ssh in from another system, kill X and then restart, but then all my other consoles are garbled until I reboot. I can continue to use X until it freezes again.

This is using Suse 8.2 with the .20 kernel and the latest Nvidia driver installed. AGP is a KT266 chipset using a ASUS AV7266-EX. 1gig system memory and 64meg on the video card.

I have tried changing the AGP rates and drivers to no avail.

Enclosed in the log file and a response to this thread will contain my X config file.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. This is the only hassle I have consistantly had with this card for the last couple of years using the Nvidia drivers. I am hoping that someone may have an answer to this dilemma by now

I have this same problem and it is really pissing me off. X freezes after like 5-10 mins using the nvidia driver. I have tried debian, redhat, and mandrake and all the same. I tried switching NvAGP from 0 to 1 to 2 to 3 and still nothing. I turned off acpi and nothing. Still freezes. My myhtv project is on hold until I can figure out how to prevent this. Hopefully someone will help us.

I have exactly the same problem with or without agpgart with 2.4.22 . I have a Geforce 4 MX440 on Mandrake 9.1

I think it is a bug in Nvidia X server and I bet those screwballs don't even know about it. It is unusable. I'm back to my old ATI card. I have seen the same problem on redhat on Dell with Quadro FX500

I have same problem also.
I started getting the X freeze when I updated my LM9.0 kernel to 2.4.19-35 from 2.4.19-32 (and increased RAM to 768MB).
Reducing by BIOS AGP multiplier reduced its frequency, but did not fix it. I still don't have the solution.

I've found I can get out of a freeze by using
Alt-PrintScreen-k (see /usr/src/linux/Documentation/sysrq.txt)

Unfortunately it does not do a thing for me. It locked up again today (averages about once a day at least). At least I can ssh in from another system and kill X, but I am at a loss as to what might fix this issue.

so i looked at the log u told me but couldn´t find anything bout APIC .....

then i looked at my syslog an found this:
