Default Failed to Load NVIDIA Kernel Module

Hi all, looks like a great forum you've got here.

First of all I have searched the forum and tried a lot of suggestions before posting. I was up all night trying to sort this out to no avail.

For some reason this has just started happening. When I boot up Ubuntu 8.10 and gdm tries running it flickers 3 times and then the error "Failed to load NVIDIA Kernel Module" comes up, followed by failsafe mode barging in.

I have installed/uninstalled from Ubuntu's restricted drivers, I've downloaded and installed lots of versions of NVIDIA drivers from the site. I've used old and backup xorg files. I've tried everything I can think of with no success.

I'm a website developer and my monitors native resolution is 1440x900. You can see why it's annoying being stuck in 800x600 (and lower!).

I've posted my xorg.conf and attached my installation log. I really do appreciate any replies and advice! Thanks!
