Question WXGA Resolution not apperaing in nvidia-settings

Hi,

I have just installed openSuse on my Dell D820 and then I installed Nvidia drivers using yast. My graphics acrd is NVS 110m and my driver version is 177.82.

The problem is that the WXGA (1280x800) resolution or any widescreen resolution (apart from 1080p which is my LCD native resolution) is not appearing in nvidia-settings. How can I fix that? I tried editing xorg.conf manually (no effect) and changing setting from Sax2 (falls back to 1024x768 for anything widescreen res) but no success.

Please help. How can I make nvidia-settings show the proper resolutions in the list?

Hi,

I've not exactly the same problem, but I have also problems with the WXGA-Resolution ( 1280x800 ) and my NVIDIA 8800GTX - Card both on Linux and Windows and my EIZO FlexSCAn S2031W.
It happens with both Driver-Versions 177.80 and 180.22 . I didn't try other driver versions yet.

When I try to activate the WXGA-Resolution with the nvidia-settings - Tool, the tool tells me it uses the 1280x800 Resolution, but there's always 1024x768 resolution on the monitor.

It's not a general problem with the Wide-Screen resolutions, because the native-resolution 1680x1050 ist working properly.

The Xorg-Logfile tells the following:

(--) NVIDIA(0): EIZO S2031W (CRT-1)
(--) NVIDIA(0): EIZO S2031W (CRT-1): 400.0 MHz maximum pixel clock
(II) NVIDIA(0): Assigned Display Device: CRT-1
(II) NVIDIA(0): Validated modes:
(II) NVIDIA(0): "1280x800+0+0"
(II) NVIDIA(0): Virtual screen size determined to be 1280 x 800

seems to be allright, but doesn't work.

Any help for that?

Best regards

Same here only 1680x1050 works.
It seems like the nvidia driver does not even try to validate other widescreen modes (besides 1440x1050 which fails here due to a to high pixel clock)

Please see the forum sticky posts about how to report a problem. Pay special attention to the instructions on how to generate a verbose mode validation log.

Hi ,

here's my nvidia-bug-report.

Addition:

I tried it with CRT and DFP ( see bug-report )
In DFP-Mode the 1280x800 resolution is working, but not in CRT-Mode.

Unfortunately I need CRT-Mode...

See attached log.

It does not try to validate any wide screen mode but 1400x1050 (which gets rejected) and 1680x1050 which is the DFPs native mode (which works).

nvmad, your bug report is missing the verbose mode validation log required to debug this problem.

Dragoran, it looks like 1280x800 is not listed in your monitor's EDID and is also not in the set of default modes included in the driver and the X server. That means you're going to have to add it by using a ModeLine.

When you say the monitor is displaying 1024x768, how are you determining that? According to your log, the 1280x800 has a best fit backend mode of 1680x1050, your monitor's reported native resolution. The EDID also shows a 1280x1024 and 1280x960 as acceptable modes, but not 1280x800 (which apparently comes from his X server, Dragoran). If you really want to force it to display 1280x800 even though it doesn't really support it, try setting ExactModeTimingsDVI.

Hi AaronP,

I'll try the workaround with ExactModeTimingsDVI.

What I don't understand is, why can my monitor display the 1280x800 in DVI mode,
and switches to 1024x768 ( this comes from the Information-Panel of the EIZO-Monitor) when I try the analog mode.

I had the same problem with a display I got for testing, that had a best fit of 1280x800. It didn' work for that one either in analog mode

I would assume because your monitor reports that as a supported mode when connected via DVI and not when connected via VGA. You'll need to generate two bug reports with -logverbose 6 to compare to find out for sure.
