Since upgrading to the latest drivers from the last beta '180.16 or .17' and to kernel 2.6.28 I noticed regressions in performance in general usage and movie playing.
Later discovered in 'nvidia-settings' GPU 0 - (GeForce 6800GT) drop down it showed Bus Type: 'PCI 1:0:0' not 'AGP 8X' Simply restarting X solves this. Exact same pattern on each reboot 2 bug reports attached 1st instance of 'startx -- -logverbose 6' from when it is detected as 'PCI 1:0:0' 2nd instance of 'startx -- -logverbose 6' from when it is detected as 'AGP 8X' |

I second that. Also see this thread: http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=118328
It seems nobody cares anymore about poor 6xxx users... |

Not only poor 6xxx users.
I have the same problem with my 7600GT (agp) and I know from other users that they have the same issue with their 7600. |

hi, i've tried the new beta driver, 180.25, but also with these i obtain the same problem Pci at the startup of the system and Agp 8x correctly if i restart X... Why before the version 180.22 all had worked fine without this strange problem?

Thank you for reporting this problem. I identified a regression in recent 180.xx driver releases that results in the behavior you describe on at least some AGP GPUs. This regression should be fixed in a future NVIDIA graphics driver release.

I have Nvidia Quadro FX Go700 and am experiencing the same problems. I, however, use the 173 branch of drivers for my card and restarting of X server doesn't fix anything. Performance in Gnome is terible. Please fix the 173 branch of drivers as well.

@ux&lx: the regression I referred to does not affect 173.xx series releases; please report your problem separately (see http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=46678).
