ok......

sys tells me i have the 2.4.20-8 ..........

on any other machine i woukdnt mind, but a geforce 4 ti 4200 with 128 mb ddr ......HAS to have the agp speedup....

anyone else a clue ????

look with cd /var/log/
more dmesg
if there's something at the beginning about APIC. If not then my clue may don't work for you. IT's something else.
I've tried before also disabiling AGp but doesn't help me.

alright...

so i looked at the log u told me but couldn´t find anything bout APIC .....

then i looked at my syslog an found this:

im ****ed up and tired guys......

so i figured, that those messages only mean that the gpl is not licensed...

so i wanted to use older drivers....

i found a guy that recompiled older nvidia drivers for redhat 9...

(anyone interested : http://rebus.webz.cz/ )

so i reinstalled the whole OS (to start from 0 and avoid other errors...) after that i wanted to use those rpm files, cause on my geforce 2 mx 440 2 jears ago, the rpms went fine.....

but i could be all to easy,.....so i got f..ing freeze even BEFORE i installed the nvidia driver....

white screen with purple lines or dots.... strg+alt+<-- no effect, not even a very aggressive strg+alt+del ...

........no more ideas....

these are bad news.
I told u that skipping Apic has worked for me but may be not for another configuration
I dont know why but for me has worked. Consider that I have installed the driver on a compilated kernel and the installer has'nt found a precompilated kernel interfaces ( because it was my own customized kernel) and it has compiled by itself the module and the interface using the kernel sources that I have installed

at the end all goes right
I dont know what tell u now.

-try look the nvidiainstaller log (cd /var/log) what say
-theres on the net some tool to check if the installaton of the nvidia driver is correct and succesfull ( try searching nvidia check) it's useful
- try dowload and install yanc ( yet another nvidia configurator) launch it ( in x with the driver nv enabled) and look what say

now I haven't no more words
