Defining the time frame, locations and specifics for planned Microsoft-branded retail stores will be Porter’s first order of business. The purpose of opening these stores is to create deeper engagement with consumers and continue to learn firsthand about what they want and how they buy.
Hopefully the store would be balanced between PR and actual support. I really don't like going into a store where the guy behind the counter is trying to sell you all of this crap that you don't need and you know more about their products than they do.

That's where I'm thinking MS might be able to gain an edge over a place like Best Buy. Rather than just hiring random people to provide their "in depth" knowledge they would be a lot more successful if they use people who actually work for MS and work with their products.

Reminds me of the guy we just had out for our printer support. He's a higher up so he can talk sales, but it just comes across so drab to a bunch of techs. He came out to show us the features of their trouble ticket system and how to use it.

It's called the Nerd Herders.
