I've tried the Crysis benchmark again (with the third-party tool, showing results on a board at the end after three passes), and at 1280x960, with 4xMSAA and 16xAF I get an average of 43FPS, a minimum of 31FPS and a maximum of 58FPS, on manually tweaked High settings. It's all good and works wonders (I could never get past the 27FPS barrier with my GTS 640MB and that was without AA and only 4xAF, so I'm very happy with the results and the game is a whole new experience now that it's fast).

Also, I tried over-clocking and so far I managed a result of 702 Core/1548 Shader/1404 Memory, and it does provide some extra FPS'es in some of my games (and the load temperatures at that speed remains under 75ºC, so I'm cool with that).

Ya... this card is a beast with OC'ing! I was reading a review somewhere where they managed to hit 750Mhz on the core and 3000Mhz on the memory!!! Not sure if I plan to go that high but each day I am nudging the clocks up little by little and playing games to make sure its all good

With about 2 weeks to go before the step-up window closes, I started the process to move to a 295 from a 280. I'm currently at #509 in the queue, so this is probably going to take a while.

I got my Asus GTX 295 today.

This thing is huge! I mean, really huge! I had to re-route a lot of cables inside my CM Stacker to make it fit :P

First impressions are

Crysis looks awesome with DX10 at 1920x1200

Every game I've thrown at it it just chews out :P

The only weird thing I've noticed is coil whine during the Crysis intro videos... No whining during actual gameplay on any game I've tried thankfully.

But the coil whine during the intro videos is very, very audible and it nearly gave me a heart-attack...

I've googled about this and it seems its quite common. But why does this happen with Crysis intro videos only???

I get the same thing, and with STALKER. I also got a whine with my 4870x2 with those games, but only during the intros. Weird.

just got my new GTX 295's cards, income tax return FTW!

Weird issue that I assume is GPU related... I get a wildly inconsistent framerate on 3dmark06 with my GTX 295 on my evga x58. When I start the program, about a third of the time I start with 145+ fps, and about 2/3 of the time I get about 115fps. The difference lasts the entire benchmark, and I get two wildly different results. This is with absolutely no change in settings.

edit: nvm, turned off hyperthreading on the i7 and it stays at 145+

Got mine GTX285 couple of days ago and I just love the speed upgrade over 8800GTX.
Red Alert 3 is quite enjoyable with proper amount of SSAA and decent resolution.
Water effects are quite serious eye candy and shadows are not quite as horrid than without SSAA.

Hello,I'm new to this forums and i need some help please.



I'm having problems with my fresh instaled GTX295 whenever i try to instal/uninstal new drivers i cannot find them in the control panel ? whenever i try to load Crysis or Crysis Warhead
i get error msg (Unsupported video card?) when i try to just instal new drivers it ask me if i want to override the drivers like they are already instaled?(there are not any instaled in control panel)
I tried instaling them anyway but the same problem appear whenever i load the game?

Also i cant load the Nvidia control panel (Cannot be found error) in the device manager the graphic card is recognized as standard vga video card.

Any ideas? do i have a faulty card or its driver problem ? should i rma the card or trying to fix? i'm noob in hardware sorry.Some help would be really appreciated

Have you tried using a driver cleaning app like XDC? Uninstall any video/physx drivers, reboot in to safe mode and run the driver cleaner. If you are upgrading from something like an ATi card clean those drivers out too tho you should definitely do a clean windows install if so.

As for the 295, I absolutely love it. Its scary fast even compared to my OCed 280 and everything is smooth as butter. Cores run around 50c at idle and i've seen a max of 88c during crysis runs. It is loud however; 40% fan speed(idle) sounds like 65% on the 280 which it never came close to hitting and this hits 70%+ all the time. So yeah, compared to it is VERY loud. I figured if it was gonna be screaming like that an OC wouldn't hurt

Thanks for your replay I had GTX260 before didnt try to uninstal physyx tbh
i used driver sweeper, clean the drivers and reinstal im using 182.06 at the moment
Now it does work but i got bigger problem now.I get really low fps in Crysis like
22-25 average @ next settings.

In game quality =enthusiast

Resolution = 1920 x 1200

Antialiasing = 4X

Anisotropic Filtering = 16X

Antialiasing gamma correction = on

Antialiasing mode = Multisampling

Conformant Texture clamp = Use hardware

Texture filtering Negative lod bias = Clamp

Texture filtering quality = High Quality


I'm aware Crysis is peformance killer game but still this fps are low comparing my GTX260
had like 16 fps at those settings from what i know GTX295 should be at least double faster
im talking about GTX260 192 version,also Vantage score is (GPU 16000) like 3k lower at least.Please
tell me what can i do to make performance better? any sugestion will be really appericated.
Could bad ram memory A Data 6GB@1333MHZ or hard disk Wester Digital 1TB causing this ? Maybe vista reinstal will help? tbh doubt it.

4x AA is a bit much even for this card in crysis. I only have the original but I cannot use any AA at 1920 with everything maxed. Disable AA and it should run much better. You don't have to reinstall windows upgrading from a 260.

EVGA GTX 285 SC and 300gb VelociRaptor arrived today. Newegg had em together in a combo for $60 off a few days ago. I was looking at getting a GTX 260 and a Raptor, but for a little more I was able to snag a 285 instead!

Playing through Bioshock w/ 8xQ AA, what a difference! I really don't see the need for higher levels of AA, aliasing isn't noticeable at all with my native res of 1680x1050. Crysis seems pretty playable at DX10 Very High at my native res as well. Overall a worthwhile upgrade to my 8800GT.
