It took me a few hours to figure out why most of my overclocks were failing on vista64....when stress testing or using burn in tests its worth to wait 2-5 mins after boot up for the prefetch and indexing in vista to stop before sytarting any tests.

Your CPU should pass Intel Burn-in Test at stock speed, if it fails there is something wrong in your hardware. When overclocked this test is much harder than Prime95. An overclocked computer that can run Prime95 for hours with no errors should be 100% stable in gaming, however it could fail Intel test.

Its more then likely the vdrop that is causing you problems.
Have you looked for a vdrop mod for your motherboard? I'm sure one exists. I've run the Intel burn test on my PC and its 100% stable so I wouldn't dismiss the test as others seem to suggest.

There is a vdroop mod that entail a soldering iron, and I can't be bothered to do it.
Regardless, my i7 setup is coming this week, and hopefully the EVGA x58 board is better at maintaining a good OC. I'll have my present hardware for sale soon. ![]() |
