Default Awesome OC with new memory!

Well today I decide to goto Micro Center and take my tour... right as I walk in I see some OCZ GOLD 4GB (2GB x 2) PC 8500 (1066) DDR2 on sale for $54.99. I figured at that price... why the hell not. I could now have 6GB combined with 2 of my 1GB sticks of RAM just for ****s and giggles. So I buy the RAM, but just to test I decide to only run to two stick I just bought in my system and see if I can OC my CPU past 3.15GHZ (to which it's been stuck at forever). So just for the hell of it and without any hope of it working I instantly set my settings to 402 x 9 for 3.63 Ghz on my Q6600 and just left my CPU voltage on Auto. To my complete surprise my system booted right up at 3.63 Ghz!! Keep in mind, I could never get past 3.15Ghz no matter how high I set my voltages. Needless to say I am very pleased. After about 4 hours now of tweaking I have found my sweet spot to be 3.5Ghz (390x9) @ 1.4325 Vcore in the BIOS (1.392V actual / 1.34V 100% load). Temps are about 63C under full load and that seems pretty acceptable to me! I was able to get 3.63 Ghz stable but it required 1.475 Vcore in the BIOS and under full load it was running at 69-71C which was to hot for my liking. I am pretty damn happy about my purchase today needless to say! I have the RAM running at a 1:1 ratio at 4-4-4-12 on 1.95V. Hope to make note of performance increases later on after I have a good 12 hour Orthos run proving stability.

Awesome dude, now that you have some headroom. Have you tried 425x8/1.425 vcore @1063 on the mem? If you try it make sure to do mem bandwidth and CPU benchmarks I bet 425 will scream.

I have not tried that yet.... the problem is that will probably take more voltage than I am willing to accept on the CPU to achieve that high FSB speed. At 390x9 its already using 1.4325 Vcore in the BIOS. I have some room left with temps, but I don't want to push it to close to an unsafe range of operation on temperature. Whats great about my current OC is that the CPU is the only thing that needs extra voltage. I am running my NB at only 1.25V and my memory at 1.95V (2.1V is the spec). All other voltages are set to Auto. I did however lock my PCI-E speed to 101 to make sure it did not try any weird stuff.

When I ran it at 3.63Ghz I had to increase the CPU voltage to 1.45V (pretty big jump in temps went along with that). You think with an 8x multiplier I could get by at 425x8 with the same amount of CPU voltage? I am willing to accept running the NB at 1.45V and the memory at 2.1V if I have too I have a huge ass fan on my NB.

This is only further proof that the ASUS P5B-D was by far one of the best LGA775 MB's of all time!

I'm glad you did that, **** was keeping me awake at night.

I'm surprised the NB is okay on 1.25v, Hopefully it'll stay that way.

So how much ram are you using now? I'm looking to max out my amount of ram (for its own sake).

Yeah dude you are going from 3.5 to 3.4 Ghz. Your Vcore could be lower then your current 3.5. I would give it a shot if its not stable you can always go back but I bet it will do fine.

Nahhh... will not post at 425 x 8 I guess the FSB is to high or it requires more voltage that I am willing to give. Tried it with 1.4325Vcore / 1.45V FSB / 2.1V RAM and left the FSB Termination voltage to Auto. I have it 100% stable at 3.5Ghz which I am pretty damn happy with I might take some time to get it 100% stable at 3.6Ghz (400x9) as I know I can hit it already. I also remember reading that 400Mhz FSB on this motherboard is one of the most stressfull (and fastest) settings as the Northbridge does not go to the laxer stripe untill 401Mhz.
