Apparently the GeForce GTX 295 is a money loser for Nvidia and its partners and will soon be gone. I've been looking at some of the more reputable internet sellers like Newegg and Zipzoomfly who are selling the card for OVER MSRP. CompUSA even has it for $549!!! This card is definitely getting hard to find! It seems as though a limited number was going to be manufactured, and when that number was sold, there would be no more. So get it now, while you can! It's really an astounding card if you like to play in high resolutions with all the visual settings maxed out.

Do you have any info to backup the fact that production will be stopped soon?
And may this not be due to new cards potentially around the corner? |

Maybe its down to poor yield ,But if they start selling just lowest common denominator products that would be a bad thing, It turns out being king of the hill doesn't pay.

The word is that the card is too expensive to produce. The main objective of the GTX 295 for Nvidia was to dethrone ATI is the speed dept. at the high end of the market. The GTX 295 is now the fastest single card available and rivals two GTX 285 cards in SLI. Now that Nvidia can lay claim to having the fastest card available, it can scale back production. The GTX 3xx should be released some time by the end of this year.

the GTX 285s in SLI are faster than a single 4870x2 and a single GTX 295. Sure 2 285s will cost more but I had 2 4870x2 and they couldn't scale for crap. maverickman is probably talking about the article by Charlie D who of course is biased against Nvidia.

Yeah, it is that Charlie D article at The Inquirer. I knew someone would figure out the source sooner or later. It does make some sense though as the GTX 295 is getting harder and harder to find and the going price for one is now over retail. Remember the 9800 GX2. That one went out the door very fast. we may see something similar with the GTX 295. Still, this card is way better than the 9800 GX2.

Does CD have anything to back his statements up or, is he just using unavailability at some e-tailers as proof?

love my 295 which i got just in time on release with step up for £70
i say BS on the thread though, evga said many times on the forum that there will still be plenty of 295's continued to be made, there was just an unexpected demand for them hence the shortage (a bit like when the 8800GT's were released) plenty at my favourite UK PC components site- http://www.overclockers.co.uk/produc...=56&subid=1324 |
