The intel chipset drivers will try to install then tell you they didnt and to install them with recommended settings. The recommended settings are Compatibity mode for Vista. So basically either do this your self or you will get an error and it will want to reinstall again using Vista compatibility mode.

Either way the chipset driver still needs to be install in Vista compatibility mode.

On another note, PhysX is working in x64 but you MUST use the Nvidia Windows 7 beta driver. Its still hosed if you use the Vista drivers in Win7.

I installed build 7057 both x86 and x64 on VirtualPC and VMware with about 45 mins on clean installation and very fast boot time on virtual machines. But I tried installed the x64 on a spare physical hard drive, the clean installation took about 3 hours and it took very long time to boot at 5 mins compared to less than a min with Vista x64. Look like it has very buggy windows setup installation, if all bugs were fixed then it would had it clean installed in 30 mins and boot less than a min.

Other than that, Windows 7 worked fine at full performance with Aero enabled when it reached desktop.

Odd, my installation of Seven 64bit (7057) took about 20 minutes and boots reasonably fast. AMD platform bug maybe?

Myself, I'm using the built in Windows 7 Intel chipset driver without issue.
Yes, I have Vista(32) and Win7(64) on a single drive but on separate partitions. Works just fine.
I use the 9.2 Catalyst drivers as well, but did not install them with any compatibility modes, but a regular installation. Works fine.

clean install is fast, i was talking about upgrade process.

I used Catalyst 9.2 on the 7000 beta, but at the moment I'm using the MS delivered ATI driver. Works very well so far, but no control panel (ATI's control panel sucks anyway) or Open GL.

The driver is WDM 1.1. Been playing several games without any hitches so performance is fine too, although I haven't been testing fps so can't say how much slower it is.

Waiting for Catalyst 9.3 beta drivers for Windows 7.

I'm downloading the x64 version now. I need to burn the iso to DVD like before right? Also, should I upgrade from current 7000 or do fresh install? I'm such a duma$$

Upgrade worked perfectly for me. It does a fresh install and then copies all settings and files from the old installation and also re-installs drivers. I did not burn it onto a DVD or use an dvd-image program. I just unpacked all files from the ISO to a temp folder on the HDD with 7-Zip and installed from there.

But when I upgraded it did not copy the Catalyst 9.2 driver for Vista but used the WDDM 1.1 beta driver instead as I mentioned above. The driver date is from march, so I guess it's based on fresh driver.

But as it's still beta OS you can do a new install too if you like, just up to your preference.

Note: It asks you for the key again so have your beta key ready.

i went back to xp
havin to many issues with nvidia drivers and vista

hopefully 7 comes out sooner than later
