See Appendix A in the README for a list of which GPUs are supported by which drivers. Your GeForce 7100 / nForce 630i is supported by the current release, 180.29.

You probably ran into this problem: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.p...49#post6314049 and the followup, http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.p...59#post6318159 (except that those users were looking for beta drivers).

Appendix A. Supported NVIDIA GPU Products

For the most complete and accurate listing of supported GPUs, please see the Supported Products List, available from the NVIDIA Linux x86 Graphics Driver download page. Please go to http://www.nvidia.com/object/unix.html, follow the Archive link under the Linux x86 heading, follow the link for the 180.29 driver, and then go to the Supported Products List.

i tried it this way, but it seems once i follow the archive link under the linux x86 heading, there is no link for the 180.29 driver... any ideas?

Instead of clicking on the archive link, just click on "Latest Version: 180.29", which should take you here: http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux_d...32_180.29.html
