Hi I have now thanks and I do see the new page there now as well like Bernhard suggested. I also booted into windows and installed RivaTuna which reports my 2D settings are both 100 (just like on linux's nvidia settings), but it doesn't flicker on windows (not that I've noticed. perhaps I need to spend more time on windows to be sure). And so changing those settings seems unlikely to help. I'm reluctant to mess with it now given that.

For me it is because of the never solved powermizer issues.
(only lower two of the four performance levels are used. I am stuck with 275, 250 Mhz clocks while it should run at 430, 400 Mhz)
See this thread for more about this:
http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=124153

I have heard reports of different laptops with the same nvidia chip where one has the powermizer issues and the other has not.
So it could also have to do with bios issues or other laptop vendor/model specific differences.

To be sure I get a new laptop where the nvidia card works flawlesly and gets maximum performance I want to make sure I get the exact same model.

So please share the exact model name of your laptop (and the used nvidia chip) if it actually works and can use all the performance of the nvidia card.

My GeForce 8600m GT works perfectly with 185.13 (fast 2D and 3D, VDPAU with advanced deinterlacing, suspend+resume, etc)

I have a 6600GT before and now a 9600GT, both work very well under linux. And I have twin view setup till I got my second box.

PS: My 6600 is pci-e
