Default Problem with dialogues

Ubuntu Intrepid 8.10
Nvidia drivers 177.xx
chip: Nvidia 8200M
Compiz-Fusion 0.7.8

I have a problem with dialogs when running compiz, this can be easily reproduced with Firefox "open" or "save as" dialogs, and also with OpenOffice.
The dialogs open but looks like the mouse is not working, I mean I can't select any folder to open or save to, or even enter the save name of the file.

But if i resize the apparently stuck dialog the content is redrawn and the content is displayed.

Let's say in firefox i want to open /home/folder/foo.html

click on file/open => opens the dialog
click on home => nothing happens
resize the dialog => the content of home is displayed.
click on folder => nothing happens
resize the dialog => the content of folder is displayed.
Double click on foo.html opens the file.

so resizing after each mouse action I am able to complete the desired task.

a minimal resize is all it takes to redraw the dialog content, so I guess it has something to do with the dialog failing to be redrawn/refreshed after mouse action...

I have tried disabling all plugins somehow related to window resizing but it don't work..
Restoring to compiz defaults don't work
Disabling animations don't work
Disabling compiz (metacity --replace) cures the problem...

Upgrading to 180.xx the X server crashes completely as the dialog opens and I got to hard reset since I can't even ctrl+alt+backspace to a new login.
That's too bad as 180.29 is real fast and cures the choppy flash movies (youtube) which I experience with previous driver releases, including currently deployed 177.

Any help would be very welcome...

Default Re: Problem with dialogues

Did you ever get anywhere with this problem?

I have been searching google, this forum, ubuntu forums for anyone experiencing this and finally I've found someone.

The problem you describe is exactly what I am getting. Originally I thought upgrading my driver to the latest one form the one in the repo's would solve it, but, as you described, it makes it worse!

If you managed to find a workaround/fix please could you post here and let me know.
