Default losing video signal

debian lenny, driver 180.37 (happened with 180.29 too), 9600gt

Since 2-3 weeks i lose sometimes my video signal to the monitor during stuff like games. Monitor is just going dark and thats it.
It happens not often but usually during things that require some sort of opengl or whatever. Like during games, this time it started when i clicked on start install for warcraft3.
During game sessions it happens sometimes, not reproducable for me.
I have to reset the pc then.
Last time i checked via a laptop and ssh if the pc is still alive and he actually was alive.
SSH session is laggy but working and top is showing me xorg process with 100% cpu usage.
Killing doesnt work nor does gdm stop.
Used sudo halt to shutdown the pc then.

Now i tried to reproduce it with the warcraft 3 installer and it happened again.
Anyone with similar experience or an idea how to fix it?

edit: same problem with 180.41
