Default Update of GeForce 9600M GT driver

Hello all,

my first post here even if I've read the forum quite often

My question is quite simple, and maybe silly, I've searched it but could not find an answer.

I'm using Fedora 10 x64 on an HP Pavillon notebook which is equipped with a GeForce 9600M GT video card, sadly I've noticed I'm good company with freezes and problem with the driver, so I thought to give a try to the beta drivers 180.41 (I'm using latest stable release) and here's where the doubt arises.

I use to install current drivers through 3rd parties repositories with akmods and akmods-nvidia packages, if I'm going to install pre-release/beta drivers should I first uninstall these 2 packages or I'm good to go even if these two packaes are present?

Thanks in advane for any reply.

P.S. I know even latest drivers have some problems but I think it is worth a try as with the present driver my notebook is quite useless and I'm forced to use windows to bring on my job If you have any other suggestion it would be more than welcome!

Unfortunately I do not understand what your problem is. I will take a guess and think you said your laptop is not working under Linux?

180.41 is not a beta release. The beta release is 185.13.

If your're using 3rd party packages and a package manager, just updating those packages should be ok.
If you're using the NVIDIA-blah.run install files, it might be better to uninstall the old one first via the --uninstall command line option.
