Default installing norton 09 on a infected computer.

a Friend of mine got a few viruses on his computer. downloading Norton 09 from the internet has the risk of downloading a bad packet. If he buys the disk is there any risk of messing up the computer?
thanks,

not sure what you mean to be honest. either way will work fine as long as the virus isn't stopping him from downloading/installing it.

Best approach is to take out primary HDD from your friend machine, put it into a clean machine (as a secondary drive! do NOT boot from it!), and let Norton 2009 fully scan it and clean it.

that is good first step, better when the virus is in-active on the hdd, then running on the pc and trying to scan/clean it.

Do what Sticky says and see how you go. A good cleaner is malware bytes for spy ware. oh and Hitman (it's a combo of several apps, but a little bloated).
