I'm not sure what could be wrong.
What is your AGP aperture size? Try to set it as much as your card video memory.

Yap, check this example:
http://i40.tinypic.com/10xa4pw.jpg

Now I didn't try to disable kwin.
This happens on kde4.2 with both nv 180.37 and 180.41, don't know about others.

Apart from fonts, windows also seem to break sometimes.
You can also see that on that image.

The problem gets worst when I run my ("fantastic") program which performs multiple passes using a large number of textures (only one per shader pass though).

I also don't know if it's actually a drivers problem or a kwin/kde problem so... I'm not accusing not pointing fingers here. =)

board is a go7400 TC

I have an embedded GPU which uses system memory for its operations, so AGP aperture size doesn't apply to my situation.

The problem has gone with "-a GlyphCache=0", thank you.

There's one thing I'd like to mention: with kwin effects turned on, smooth scrolling in Konqueror isn't nowhere near smooth:
Code:
PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEM TIME+ COMMAND
 5129 root 20 0 340m 273m 28m R 51.7 13.9 110:40.44 X
 5527 artem 20 0 209m 75m 42m S 30.5 3.8 35:16.99 kwin
32749 artem 20 0 360m 196m 36m S 13.2 10.0 37:22.48 konqueror
Note system uptime now is 6 days, 8:46, however it's not that I like that X has eaten four hours of CPU to a date.

Is it an onboard GPU? It looks like this bug mostly affects people with onboard graphics.

Hi,
yes. It's a Go7400 TurboCache on a dell m1010 xps 12" laptop.

I was actually able to correct this problem by turning off direct render from the kwin configuration. That is system settings > Desktop > Desktop Effects > Advanced > Enable Direct Rendering (in the opengl options)

The rendering glitches are gone, otherwise nothing changed.
Maybe it's too early to say anything but it seems to work.

Try it out.

Talked to early... problem persists.
I'll try to disable desktop effects for now...

Try $ nvidia-settings -a GlyphCache=0 - at least it worked for me

ok, I'll try that.
Don't think it will help with all the rendering problems, but if it helps with the fonts thats good enough. =)

Well, with the fonts it definitely helped.
I've been trying to do the same things that caused the problems in the past, but it seems very stable now. Great!

Now I just need to correct the screen tearing. Sometimes one vertical line or horizontal line just goes weird. Moving the mouse over it refreshes that part of the screen but it just moves to another part of the screen. After chasing it for a bit, it'll disappear... -_-

Here's an example:
http://i42.tinypic.com/2urwbdl.png

It's also normal for certain parts of the screen to be incorrectly drawn. As for examples the radio buttons under this form (while filling). Only the upper half of each radio button is drawn. Same thing for the "Submit Reply," etc... buttons.

Again if I hover the mouse over each, the button will redraw correctly. Same thing if I change tab and back. Most interesting thing is that I can't take a screenshot of it. Apparently it refreshes the screen to take the shot...

So I took a pic the old way:
http://i41.tinypic.com/2u5qji8.png

This might not even be related with the nvidia driver (using 180.41-r1 on sabayon 4 linux).Maybe it's a kde-4.2.1 problem or other. Apparently, with the desktop effects off this wont happen.

humm...

Are any of your PC components overclocked? Have you tried running memtest86+ for at least one hour? Is CPU/north bridge/south bridge temperature OK?

This last bug seems like a problem with your hardware.

Well, I don't know about that but I never had this before kde4. Maybe kde4 made that bug show up...

Maybe not. I can't say no, but I don't think so.

My hardware is not overclock and I do have an extra cooling base. Usually my laptop fan wont even work as the base keeps the temperature below the cpu fan trigger.

It only works when I'm compiling something, like a huge package. And only for a bit. So I would say that the problem is somewhere else.

Besides I was using the same software a week ago on kde3.5 sabayon 3.5 and I didn't have this problem.

Another thing. Apparently that cache trick does give a bit more of stability but it wont cure the problem.

I installed this firefox extension (Auto pager) and after making an (image) search, and scrolling down some > 30 pages it happened again.

I would say (wild guess), that it was related with texture memory exhaustion...

(Just noticed that I forgot to place the "GlyphCache=0" in my /etc/modprobe.d/nvidia, so on reboot it was getting set to 1 again. so it might cure...)
