Is "direct rendering enabled"?

If you have "direct rendering: yes", edit /var/log/dmesg and search for messages like this:

 IRQ XX IRQF_DISABLED is not guaranteed on shared IRQs

Many users have reported problems with 2.6.29 and IRQF SHARED/DISABLED; in some cases, this problem affects nVidia cards too.

In my case, after I have switched to 2.6.29, I get the message (at boot):

IRQ 18 SAA7133: IRQF_DISABLED is not guaranteed on shared IRQs

and my DVB-T card does not work!

this isn't really a problem: 180.29 works fine for me and I still get those messages,

I get that message, too, and I do not have the problem you mention here. Rendering performance is normal.

Yes same, i read msg in other forum:

..and now use driver 96.43.11 and i'm happy all work ok (good 3D) and no corruption and/or freeze

Does it affect some realworld applications too or is glxgears really the only 3d application you run? in that case 5fps would be ok, its not like a lot is changing when you get 4127864812638761361945215fps in GLXGEARS

Wait a second.
You'd better think (and maybe google) before you insult someone.
The glxgears performance drop may be a problem if too big. See this article:

So the only thing glxgears really tests is the performance of glXSwapBuffers() - basically, how fast we can push render buffers into the card. This operation is slower with DRI2, but - roughly speaking - unless it was an order of magnitude slower (e.g. glxgears drops from 1000FPS to under 100FPS) it wouldn't make any real difference.

On the other hand, use some other benchmark like e.g. the unigine demos.

Edit: but first try disabling the X86_PAT in the kernel (see nopat above).

I am find problem, it's really Page Attribute Translations, а.к.а. CONFIG_X86_PAT in kernel.

BUT is solve problem in x86_32!!!
Under AMD64 (x86_64), CONFIG_X86_PAT enable, and no exist slowdown GL graphics.

Today's linux kernel patch 2.6.29.1 fixed this bug.

Now, you try with CONFIG_X86_PAT
