Default KDE4 graphical corruption

Hi, I have a 7100
With this release the systray issue is gone away! :-)
But now I have a graph corruption, which I never experienced before
KDE 4.2.1, 180.44 (also 185.13 beta):

I hope you can see the problems.. Horizontal transparent lines (about 1 px height) and nasty black border (15px!) around Plasmoids with Oxygen theme! Also a 1px-height transparent horiz line in the "gimp" icon on the panel (i hope you can see)
Also tried 185.13 beta, same results... I hope it will help. I don't want to downgrade because since this release I have a working systray!!! :-)
Best regards

The boarder looks more like the Qt 4.5rc issue to me.

Which version of Qt are you using, on which distribution?

Slackware current, Qt 4.4.3
We are not on the "cutting edge" :-D So I think this is not a Qt issue...

01:07.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation NV34 [GeForce FX 5200] (rev a1) [NV]
02:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation G72 [GeForce 7300 SE] (rev a1) [NVIDIA]

with the new driver I get hard freezes.
I am using KDE4.2.1

This is the last entry in /var/log/messages:
Mar 31 12:28:51 tobi-desktop [ 2785.965426] NVRM: Xid (0002:00): 6, PE0000 0fc0 00dcdad5 0000d934 00000000 00dcdad5
Xorg.0.log does not show anything.

In fact, the only stable driver for me is 177.82.

Thanks
Tobi

In fact the problem with the border was a known Qt problem I faced as well. Plasma used a workaround which didn't work anymore in Qt 4.5rc, and which is not needed anymore in 4.5 final. Since kde 4.2.1 got some updates related to Qt this might be your problem.

First please try to see whether the problem occurs with a non-nvidia driver as well. If it doesn't: probably really a Qt problem.

Else: please provide a nvidia bug report.

With the new driver and KDE 4.2.1 built against Qt 4.5 I am currently not facing this issue.

What other driver can I use? Only vesa I know, but I think with that way compositng will be turned off... The matter is: I have this software: Kde 4.2.1, Qt 4.5rc1, NVidia driver version 180.11 and everything goes right (but the systray doesn't work). If I upgrade ONLY the driver I get my systray working but also that graphical garbage. So why do you think it's a Qt related problem?

I hope my English will be clear enough (sorry!)

The problem only exists when compositing is turned on?
Because plasma should, in general, work without it.
In that case you could try vesa or nv.

For compositing ... maybe nouveau works for you, I don't know it's current status.

Because I had this borders as well with QT 4.5rc1 (and KDE 4.2 I guess), and they are gone with KDE 4.2.1 built against QT 4.5.

As well the problem with garbaged icons in the systray is gone since QT 4.5 for me, unrelated to the driver used.

Yes, I guess I got you right. It might be driver related, I just suspect the QT and / or KDE version because I faced issues similar to your screenshots, which are now gone (unrelated to which driver I use, including the new 180.44)

Looks like Qt4.5 raster mode, ask your distro.

so does 180.44 support KMS yet? or will that be in an upcoming release? or is the nouveau team being thrown some bones to get it working proper? does anyone know this?

Powermizer is still broken in 180.44

Only performance level 0 and 1 are used
level 2 and 3 are never reached
(0: nvclock 169 memclock 100, 1: nvclock 275, memclock 250)
(2: nvclock 400 memclock 400, 3: nvclock 430, memclock 400)

Also the console is still unusable after starting X (CTRL-ALT-F1 gives black screen)

system: ACER aspire 6930G with GeForce 9600M GS

VDPAU working nicely with 180.44 x86_32 (Ubuntu Jaunty i386) and XBMC SVN (jaunty repository) with an x264/mkv/720P file. Only problem I see is a lot of tearing. This was not the case with Windows 7 and Media player classic home cinema.

It seems I don't need mplayer svn anymore.
