I would avoid the 295 simply because it blows alot of heat in to the case. The 260's don't.

Here, in the EU, the cheapest GTX260 core 216 costs 209E, and a 4850X2 costs 289E.

Check the performance in the games that you are going to play, and decide.

Also, think about things like CUDA, PhysX, DX 10.1, drivers, H264 HW Playback, ... or think about the possibility to add a 2nd 4850X2 in the future.

I think that the performance gap between 2xGTX260 core 216 & the GTX295 is very small to justify the price difference, but, you might prefer the single slot solutions for future upgrades.

It just brought up another point. The poster is looking for a card in the same price range, the 48x0 series is more than relevant, especially for what the poster is looking for. For him to not at least look into his options and address the additional price/performance factor the ATI cards would bring to the table would be stupid.

I looked at the 4980s. They are in stock, but in most early benchies they are slower than one 260GTX :: Not worth it when i can get 2x260 for a a bit more.

Anyway I have 2 260GTXs SP216s on the way in the next couple of days. Should be fun in Crysis. ::

EDIT: Seems they are out of stock, so I placed the order with PCCaseGear and got 2 Gigabyte 260GTXs for 330 each. So it's even cheaper. Also grabbed a 850 Corsair PSU, a Phenom system for Mum and a CoolerMaster 690 for Beagle. Lots o building for Easter.

Great. They charge my card wait another day then tell me they are out of stock of the Gigabyte Cards. Now I have some Gainward Golden Samples on the way... I think.

You will enjoy those two GTX 260's in games when you can crank up the FSAA and aniso.A GTX 295 is just priced to high.

I love my 260 216s. You should get a decent OC from them. All three of my old cards do 711|2300. I wouldn't think you'd get stuck with less than 660 on the core, which will be plenty, particularly in SLi.

Good case ventilation seems to help the 295s.....but the 295s are pretty stiff from a $$ standpoint.
