critical bug: filesystem becomes readonly when listening to music and using 180.44

If I listen to music for some time (I guess around 1 hour after
starting listening to music) my filesystem becomes readonly and I
can't continue using the sistem, so I have to reboot. When I do it,
fsck has to check the filesystem for 20 minutes and find some errors
but I have never lost data (yet). I use KDE4 with compositing on all
the time and am afraid I'll loose data someday.
I have already run the hard drive auto-diagnostic in the notebook
BIOS (HP Pavillion dv2872br) but no problems were found.
I guess the needed information is provided by the nvidia-bug-report
log but, if it is not enough, just tell me and I'll post here.

I don't notice the relation to nvidia card/driver for your problem.

This sounds like a disk issue that just happens to be triggered when you are playing music.
Why do you suspect the graphics driver for a problem that comes up when playing music? Is it not just as likely to have something to do with the audio system?

Boot Knoppix or some other standalone CD and run the long SMART test

smartctl -t long /dev/dha

(or whatever your disk device is. You may need to enable SMART on the disk first.)
I don't know what the BIOS autodiagnostic does, but the long SMART test is thorough. When it finishes view the results with:

smartctl -a /dev/hda

If that doesn't turn up anything, read the disk repeatedly using a command like;

  dd if=/dev/hda of=/dev/null bs=4096

If there is an intermittent hardware read problem, that will probably trigger it.

You're right, it's probably a problem in the audio system. I thought it could be a problem with the graphics card because sometimes, instead of getting a readonly partition, I get a screen freeze for some seconds and KDE4's compositing get disabled. But when that happens there's also a message related to the audio in the logs:

hda-intel irq timing workaround is activated for card 0. suggest a bigger bdl_pos_adj.

I'll try what you suggested (smartctl stuff). Anyway, I asked for help in the opensuse-kernel mail list also.

Just got an answer form the opensuse-kernel mail list:

This is a known bug. Should be fixed by the nearest kernel update (which
is already in QA AFAIK). Thanks for the report.
