The DSi has some nice features but IMO they aren't enough to justify the loss of the GBA port and the extra $40 tacked on to the price.
I really wish they'd just embrace the homebrew software community. My DS would barely be used if I hadn't bought an R4DS for it. I play a game on my breaks at work and then I use a nifty little program called DSOrganize to keep track of my work schedule. Animanatee, Pocket Physics and Warcraft: Tower Defense are perfect for the DS as well. If they gave the thing a little more memory, a slightly larger screen (higher resolution would make DOSBox ports and emulators much more reasonable) and supported user-made programs on an SD card I'd probably buy one these right now.

Worse offense is larger screen with same resolution so things look so much worse on it. My friend imported one and it really brings out the flaws on the screen. oh and it doesn't support imports anymore... so if you import you have to play imported titles...

Its outdated now but its a device that goes in the DS game slot and holds a micro-SD card. You can fill it with any games or apps that you can find online.
The reason you don't hear about them much is that they are mostly used for pirating games since you can play DS ROMs directly off of SD cards. I think its an awesome platform for homebrew though. Because of the touch screen and the abundance of screen space (two screens) the DS is very good at being a mini-PC. The main problems are related to support though. If there was a little more memory, better screen resolution and support for homebrew software I think we'd see some really awesome freeware for the DS, but as it is right now its just a little bit too limited. SNES, Genesis and DOS games require more pixels than the DS has available on a single screen so right there the possibility of carrying all of your favorite old games in your pocket is hampered. Most emulators end up cutting off portions of the screen or scaling them down a lot. I really want to get my hands on one of these eventually. ![]() http://www.openpandora.org/

I was gonna get a DS, but there is a Symbian port of SCUMMVM that plays all my adventures just nicely. So that's my gaming there. I just load up an 8Gb card with full CD talkie version and away I go. :
