terminals remains black with 9600GT and 177.70 or 177.78

I can also confirm that enabling the NVreg_UseVBios=0 option, doesn't solve my black virtual console issue. My laptop has a PCI-X GeForce 9600M GT w/ 512MB.

I've been testing all the drivers from 177.82, to the latest available (180.08). The kernel i'm using, is also the latest (2.6.27.6).

I also tried the vga=normal solution proposed by many people in the forum, but that didn't work either.

Help from the NVidia crew would be appreciated

Acer Aspire 5930G - GeForce 9600M GT, blank terminals no matter what framebuffer I use or what option I pass to the nvidia module. Terminals fine with the nv driver.

I swapped three distributions: Ubuntu 8.10, Mandriva 2009.0 and openSuse 11.1 RC1, and three driver versions: 177.80, 177.82 and 180.08; they all show the same behaviour.

Hi,

Same problem, no TTY when X started with nvidia modules (work with nv)
Using 180.29 on 2.6.27.18 kernel. (Acer TM 7730G, Nvidia 9300M GS / Debian)
With vesafb, uvesafb, without fb, with VBios option, without... Nothing work !

I can't test with a older driver, they won't compil on 2.6.27 (and I need it for my wireless).

What do ?

EDIT: Same error on a true debian-amd64 2.6.28 and x86_64 driver.

Seems I am in the same boat. I'm on a Dell SC1430, dual quad, 1.6Ghz, BIOS v1.4.0 (latest), NVidia 8800GT, 180.29 driver.

Tried a bunch of stuff:
-vga=normal
-NVreg_UseVBios=0
-older drivers
-played with IRQ settings in the limited Dell BIOS

Haven't recompiled the kernel yet. Will try that next. Ugh.

I'm now on 185.19 under 2.6.28.7, and, same error. Too in 2.6.29.

I wasn't able to read my ttys since 2006 on my notebook!!
How many times I would have had the possibility to access the terminals to recover my system from nasty problems in the last ~2 years...

Currently not working with Fedora 10 and D900C laptop running twin G9800GTX 1GB each cards and latest beta driver 185.18.08.

Interestingly with:

vga=normal in grub and
options nvidia NVreg_UseVBios=0 in modprobe

when I do ctl-alt-F1 I get a blank screen and thats it my machine is dead unless I login remotely or sometimes I don't get a blank screen but the existing screen image stays and a I lose my mouse and the machine is dead.

But if I turn off desktop-effects such as compiz then doing ctl-alt-F1 gives me a blank screen which after a short time respawns my x-windows greeter so I can login?

Still no terminal though. So I'm forced to edit inittab to init 3 on boot login do my mods then either do init 5 or reset inittab to init5 before reboot when ever I upgrade my nvidia card drivers.
