9800GX2 twinview impossible

Hi all!

First, excuse my poor English, I'm french, trying to learn English but it's really not easy

I have a 9800GX2, and in nvidia-settings (driver 180.44), I can't use "twinview", I only can have "separate X screen". Here is a screenshot :



When I had a 8600GT, I did use Twinview and compiz with no problem, but now, I can't use twinview and of course, I can't use compiz with xinerama.

What's the problem? Is there a driver that correct that bug ?

You're trying to use one monitor on one of the GPUs in your 9800 GX2 and one monitor on the other. TwinView requires two monitors plugged into the same GPU.

It depends on the board and how the ports on the back are wired to the GPUs. Is your board one of the ones with two DVI connectors and a DisplayPort connector? If so, you could try getting a DP-to-DVI dongle and plugging one of your monitors into that.

You can use Xinerama to span one screen across both gpus, but this disables the Composite extension which Compiz requires.

That's what I did, but I would really love to use compiz on my two screens
What do I have to do? Buy another videocard..?
