Is there a way to check in which performance level my GPU is running from a text console, eg ssh? I mean, without starting the graphical frontend.
Thanks Markus |

I Used this guide to get VDPAU running great with hdmi audio big bunnys colors seem to have even improved The only issue i have is when I switch sources The HDMI is running to My Sony STRDG-820 amp as well is My Satellite and Server PC (running Vista and 3 1TB HD’s) Then I have a HDMI running from the sony amp into the SONY Bravia KDL-52w4100 (a Tv which I hate by the way I had the Phillips and it was 40 times better) When I switch sources on the amp say from XBMC -> SAT then Back to XBMC I get no picture I know the media center is on bc I can hear the menu working (not anymore since I’m getting audio over HDMI but when it was analog I could hear it) so I power it down and reboot and it comes back up it is really annoying. |

mulder77, are you running a compositing window manager? If not, it sounds like you're seeing the same problem as in this thread:
http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=131643 I'll post any updates there. |

i have the nearly the same hardware and also the same problem. i wrote a script that checks if mythtv is displaying any video and change the minimum cpu frequency accordingly.
i think that is a common problem, with this motherboard (i don't know if it is working on others). their is also a user on mythtv-user list with the same problem and hardware. notz |

I am not running any window manager, just plain X and XBMC running on top of that. What I've seen is that "nvidia-settings -q all" will show up only one performance level, 0, and no other levels are possible. I redirect the GUI of nvidia-settings to a different X server while running XBMC/VDPAU. Only level 0 is shown at a frequency of 500 MHz. Once again: I don't need any GL application, like glxgears, to run to have smooth VDPAU playback. It's sufficient to have something CPU intensive running, like burnK7 etc. The clock rate of the CPU needs to be at least at 1.8GHz to have it smooth. 100% at 1GHz won't do the trick. So I think this problem must be related to some timing stuff. Any ideas? Markus |

I can only say that I run my Phenom 9600 with the "ondemand" frequency scaling governor (on my M3N78-EM, GeForce 8300 IGP), so I don't think that's the problem.

Which kernel and nvidia drivers are you using? Can you then check what performance levels are offered by the 8300? Markus |

VDPAU runs fine (I use it all the time). Kernel 2.6.29.1 (vanilla) and nvidia-driver 185.19 (180.44 before that, also ran fine). Only one performance level available (0).

I expect that your CPU is at the lowest frequency while VDPAU is doing its job and nothing CPU intensice else is running, right? Markus |
