Using the forum search I found many users having powermizer related problems. However, I did not find a feature request or a easy method to disable it (no, passing PerfLevelSrc=0x<3d><2d><whatever> is not really an option, as it needs a module reload, and the script fireing up a nvidia-settings query each 25 secs is a hack).
So, on windows drivers powermizer can be disabled by using a checkbox, how about implementing this in Linux? (Please as well as a nvidia-settings command line option, so scripting it would be easier) Thanks in advance, Fuchs PS: as always I'd like to get a small feedback when this post is read by a nvidia dev, as in "not possible", "working on it" or "existing solution: $foo" |

It would be fantastic if they would release a "Powermizer friendly" driver for linux but, people have been complaining about this for at least 2 years so, it doesn't seem to be a priority. At the very least they have made it possible to hobble together a semi-fix using scripts or PerfLevelSrc. 2 years ago, the word "powermizer" never appeared on this forum because the driver didn't expose any of that stuff. It's slowly starting to show up but, although it seems stupidly simple to do, the driver has still not provided anything resembling what I've heard it has for Windows with regards to power management.

personally for me I haven't been able to get the PerfLevelSrc hack to work ... A proper solution would be preferable. I can't imagine its something hard to add to the driver.

I would really appreciate this feature too. Or at least a way to enable powermizer only when you're on batteries.
I'd like to know if this is planned for a future release... |

it's not that we don't appreciate nvidia's care about our power consumption
) just one configuration line to completely disable powermizer is what users need. if only nvidia would condescend to helping their customers |

It would be best to see some options in nvidia-settings on PowerMizer page:
"Auto" - Enable PowerMizer and control performance dynamically, "Level 0" - Set performance level 0 and DO NOT control performance "Level 1" - Same for level 1 ... "Minimum Level 0" - Set minimal performance level 0 and enable Adaptive Clocking "Minimum Level 1" - Same for level 1 ... |

This request is more then a year old.
At that time powermizer was already problematic for some time. So how about it. Could we please have a manual powermizer control. Just put a checkbox and a slider in nvidia-settings. Please make us happy. You will be rewarded with millions of nice thoughts and warm feelings. You're life will be more rewarding. The sun will start shining. You will probably get a raise and also win the lottery. And everyone will love you, more then you can imagine. Not to mention all the free publicity from all those "linux geeks" which start recommending nvidia again to their "windows using" friends and family who come always for advise to them about what hardware to buy. (They also get free operating system advise, but that tends to be ignored more often then the hardware advise) |
