Slackware 12.2: x86-96.43.11 kernel module fails to load

Hello,

I installed Slackware Linux 12.2 (kernel 2.6.27.7-smp) today on my computer and want to continue to use the Nvidia driver. I downloaded the latest version of the Nvidia Linux x86 driver (NVIDIA-Linux-x86-96.43.11-pkg1.run). The compile succeeds, but the module doesn't load. I have attached the log file. Any ideas on how to solve this problem? I've never had this problem with Slackware and the Nvidia Linux driver before.

It seems the module is compiled against your old kernel

nvidia: version magic '2.6.24.5-smp SMP mod_unload 686 ' should be
'2.6.27.7-smp SMP mod_unload 686 '

Do you have kernel sources/headers for the new kernel installed?

This is a fresh install of Slackware 12.2 on a blank hard drive. I am using the same kernel that was used for the install. I checked using Slackware's pkgtool and verified that the kernel headers are for 2.6.27.7-smp, but the kernel source is for 2.6.24.5_smp. I originally looked at the headers and thought that was sufficient. From your statement, I gather that the kernel sources are important too. I don't understand why that older version of the kernel sources was loaded, as I did a full install. I will investigate getting the comparable kernel sources package and report back my findings.

I do miss the Nvidia splash screen logo, though.
