Default Vista SP2?

So, is this still only an RC?

When will this thing launch?

I agree, I can't wait to get a hold of the official W7 release. ALL of my PCs will be going over to W7, no doubt about it.

As for SP2, all the news on that just got real quiet. I'm surprised I haven't heard anything about it . . .

latest "version" is RTM-escrow. That means possible RTM version unless some huge issue is found.

Official RTM (release to manufacture) should happen end of this month (maybe when Office 2007 SP2 gets released) or early May.

RTW (for normal mortals) should happen mid-late may

same, but that will only happen when RTM hits, I'm not a reinstall *****, been running the same install of vista since early 2007, all is flawless.

Win7 still has issues, and beta OS will not touch my main rig.

Windows 7 has solidified its position on my laptop (1gb ram max, 2.4Ghz P4) and Netbook (that shipped with useless Linux). Windows 7 runs great on both machines even though their system specs aren't even close to my desktops. Vista barely ran on my laptop and I never even tried on the Netbook though I doubt I would've been happy.

However, on my laptop maxed with 1GB ram Windows 7 idles using between 250 - 300 MB of ram. Thats amazing that a new OS with the same look as Vista can run that efficiently. On the flip side my desktops idle using over 1GB ram with Vista SP2 on them. The bugs Windows 7 has are minor and most like Punkbuster will have to be fixed by the software manufacturer's anyways.

I'm glad to see Microsoft finally put forth an OS worthy of replacing Windows XP.

I just found out now that RTM-escrow build 6002.17506.090313-1730 is not final. So I found Vista SP2 is now in pre-RTM, recently build is 6002.18003.090403-1730 and now the latest pre-RTM build is 6002.18004.090408-1820.

I cant find build 6002.18004.090408-1820 on internet but found build 6002.18003.090403-1730 and download it just now and will uninstall RTM-escrow build and install pre-RTM build.

buzzkill...

I got Vista for $20, and I don't really want to shell out the cash for Win7. If I don't get a good deal on Win7 through school I am counting on SP2 to hold me over until I save up the cash for Win7.
