Default NVIDIA discrete marketshare up to 67%!

Quote:
Mercury Research just released desktop market share data for the last quarter.

According to Mercury Research, overall graphics shipments were up 3.8% from Q4 of 2008, which is attributed to improved desktop sales.

Overall, NVIDIA had a very slight overall market share gain of 0.3%, while AMD/ATI lost over 1% share.

In total discrete, standalone graphics (which includes desktop and mobile), NVIDIA made solid gains with an increase of nearly 3%, putting our total market share at 66%.

For desktop discrete only, the share gains were 5.4% over Q4, resulting in a market share of nearly 67%.
I got this from NVIDIA themselves, I imagine various websites will be reporting as well as these results just came out.

Not good news for the ailing AMD- losing 5 points of desktop marketshare with your strongest product lineup in 3 years doesn't bode well in these times of economic recession.

It's called marketing, and indeed, it can be ridiculous, but is efective for a big part of the people. Every company does it in any or other shape, when given a minimal argument for it.

Indeed, AMD didnt do very well after Radeon HD 4800 series launch a year ago with Prepare to Dominate!! marketing. Radeon HD 4800 series success were very shortlived and failed miserly to break Nvidia 3 years domination that AMD wanted to achieved 50% discrete marketshare a year after Radeon HD 4800 series launch.

AMD are now face very tough 2009 and 2010, they now realised that they will never achieved the goals as they dont have same userbase as it were back in 2004 the last time ATI was held the domination. Intel are very busy with all the resources testing new Larrabee drivers for new Larrabee GPU with huge library of PC games from 12 years ago until today to make it full compatible to run every games flawless as good as Nvidia driver in time for the launch in end of 2009 or sometime in 2010.

If Larrabee is as fast as AMD's R800 and R900 and their driver are much better than Catalyst and Intel will eat AMD marketshare then AMD will be in serious trouble.

AMD had bad Q1 2009 with losing both CPU and GPU marketshares to Intel and Nvidia, it sad to see AMD still struggled with no cash 6 months after spinned off the fabs last year with $416m loss in Q1 2009, they lost $7.467bn to date since acquired ATI for $5.8bn so now they are hope to get more cash from US government stimulus money.

I agree- if they wanted to make those graphs really effective they would have showed ATi's market share as well.

There are a lot of people on the net posting about how "ATi kicked NVIDIA's ass" with the 4XXX series, and showing NVIDIA's desktop market share at 67% and ATi's at <33% totally debunk that myth!

People would see that NVIDIA cards are preferred more than 2:1 by gamers, probably due to their superior features.

I'll forward your suggestion to NVIDIA PR, I know you don't want NVIDIA to miss out on this great opportunity to show the world their dominance K007.

Or perhaps "Both sides understand the nature of advertising".

Apparently you're not in the work world yet, or work for a non-profit?

Always amazes when people are surprised companies self promote.

I like Nvidia cards but donīt like the idea of them having too much marketshare, monopoly is never a good thing.
