PhysX is great if you prefer single GPU cards, because you dont need to sell or give away your old GPU, you can use it as your dedicated PhysX card, at least thats what I will use my 8800GTX once I upgrade. Quote:

it is available on Win, Linux, 360, Wii and PS3 platforms, but the CUDA based Hardware acceleration is obviously not supported where there is no supporting hardware, IE on the consoles. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PhysX

Hmmm that leaves me with a question, more like... couple of them...
1. my shuttle barebone (Shuttle SN78SH7) has an integrated GeForce 8200 GPU, never tried or even figured it but... could I be able to make PhysX relay just on the integrated chip instead of sharing resources with my main GPU, that's a GeForce 9800GT? 2. in nowadays games (like Mirror's Edge or any other PhysX-able game) what's the performance difference between using a discrete GPU and using the integrated GPU (if really possible, that's it) for physics effects? (the truth is I have the integrated GPU disabled from BIOS, maybe it's time to wake it up...) Julio |

ATI users will react negativly towards Physx since their cards dont support it and are jealous. ![]() Quote:
Pollfail According to the poll 61% of people thought Physx was useful/a bonus when buying a game, Even though only 53% of people polled have a Physx capable card!!!! Havok officially sucks, The wallet inspector told me. When the choice between cards of the same price bracket is slim, physx tips the balance in favor of NV.

Will not be a deciding factor in my purchase for now. Price/Performance is where it counts for me. Maybe by the end of the year phyx might have picked up and be a standard thing for all 'nvidia game logo' things, then its a pretty good option to think about. but for now..i have 0 games i play that use it so i don't see any use for it yet for me.

The shader processors are the things that do the physics calculations. A 9800GT with 112 SPs is generally recommended for physx. The Geforce 8200 has... 8. I wouldn't bother. ![]()

PhysX is a freebie bonus to Nvidia cards. If you dont want to use it. Disable it in games, and turn it off in the control panel. Any game currently available that supports PhysX lets you turn it off.
CUDA/PhySX and GPU computing isn't going anywhere. Even intel is embracing it in the near future. Nvidia/AMD ((Yes AMD cares about it)) and intel have no interest in abandoning a profitable way to accelerate performance in all fields of computing. The poll itself has too many variables. Most of which could have been condensed into "Yes/No" answers. Rather than 4 different answers for Yes, And 2 different answers for no.

The opinions of people who don't use Physx aren't really valid in whether Physx sucks or not, How can they be? The poll is fail. as well as your braincell argument, You haven't factored in peoples fanboyism based responses when answering polls.

I am pretty sure they recommended a Geforce 9600GT for Phsyx, needs a min of 256MB Ram video card.

Unless I'm mistaken (def. a possibility I haven't read up much on this)isn't it possible to run an ATI card as your main card and have an nvidia card for physx in the same rig on XP/Windows 7?
