Default Re: IGP 8300 freezes with 177 and 180 on ubuntu

I've had problems with my M3N78-EM (similar board, same chipset) related to its USB support. My Razer Lachesis USB mouse would freeze either immediately or shortly after X started.

I bought a USB 2.0 PCI addon card for 10 bucks and plugged my mouse into that. That solved my problem. Maybe you could try that, or try unplugging all USB devices, use an old PS/2 keyboard, launch X, and see how it goes. I don't have a problem with my USB keyboard plugged into the motherboard's USB port though.

When the display is frozen, can you attach to the X server with GDB and get a backtrace? "gdb /usr/bin/Xorg `pidof X`" should attach and then just run the "backtrace" command and paste the output here.
Got one state where I could log in through ssh:

Default Quadro FX3700 freezes with 177 and 180 on ubuntu

I don't know if it is exactly the same problem, but it looks fairly close...

The display freeze at some random time, except for the mouse cursor that could still be moved, but that couldn't affect anything. The cursor became a black arrow tilting on the left. I am not sure on this particular crash, but when it happened before, we couldn't do Ctrl-Alt-F1 to go the first console.

I was able to log in via SSH to do the nvidia-bug-report.log and the gdb.log while the display was still frozen. After doing that I usually do (init 3, kill -KILL `pidof Xorg`, init 5) and the user is able to log back in and start working again.

The setup is a Core I7-920 with a Quadro FX3700 on CentOS 5.2 64 bit with driver 169.09.

I did some random tests with the following versions:
- 173.14.12
- 180.53
- 185.18

All with the same results.

From now on I will create a nvidia-bug-report.log for each crash.

It's a problem that has been occuring a lot as we have a lot of those computer kit in place.

Francis
