To me JBOD doesn't seem like it would be that beneficial. It does allow you to span data across more than one disk, but if you ever want to remove a disk from the set you have to take all of the data off first. Also, if you run a defrag there might be data on a few different drives before the defrag, and then it will get moved all onto one disk after it's done. Not only are you not gaining performance from multiple disks, there might be significant differences in the speed between your hard drives.
I guess one advantage though would be on a Move. Instead of having to copy data from 1 drive to another, it would just update the MFT to reflect the new path without moving any data. |
