I have this problem too, on a Zepto A14 laptop, 9600M GT.
The issues are similar that other posts: - Performance Level is always 0 or 1, never goes up to 2 or 3. - Black VTs (this is not really a huge problem) I didn't try any 3D stuff before, so I discovered this today. This is happening with the 180.18 drivers I'm using currently and a vanilla 2.6.28 kernel. The 185.xx driver seems to have a lot of updates those days, so I would be pleased to see this issue fixed .Do anybody knows if the 173.xx driver is affected by this bug? It would maybe be the safer way to play games, until a fixed 185.xx driver comes out. |

Unfortunately, 169.xx doesn't support the 9600m GT as far as I know. |

Hi, 185.18.08 resurrects powermizer for me, however trying to switch VTs completely freezes the x server. Fortunately the machine is still sensitive to the power switch, because it is not to ctrl-alt-backspace, and I can avoid a hard switch off.
Also after installation (tried two times) I get a mysterious message: Received SIGSEGV signal; aborting. Not sure what exactly is aborting though because the installation completes successfully. Anyway thanks for the powermizer fix but please do investigate the VT switch bug. |

I can confirm that my 9800M GT can now switch between all of its power levels (0-3).
It seems a bit buggy though. Sometimes Nvidia Settings will show it at the highest level when the system is unoccupied. In one specific instance I saw earlier, it throttled to the lowest level while running Scorched3D with high settings, reducing the framerate to 1FPS. |

I previously tried with 173.14.18, 180.18 and 185.19, but with the today's 180.60, it's now working up to the maximum speed, I'm now able to nicely play Quake Wars
.(I should say that now, VT switching works too, xv output was black, but this was caused by xv settings contrast and saturation at 0) |

confirmed!
![]() both powermizer and vt-switch work flawlessly with 180.60. Just a question: nvidia-settings -> powermizer tab, reports: "Performance Mode: Desktop". Is that right? Or should it report "notebook" or similar, in my laptop? BTW thanks nVidia for your work. |
