Hi,
i'm using xine-vdpau and have a stsange problem. The hardware platform is : Motherboard : ASUS M3N78-EM with the GF8300 IGP CPU : Athlon X2 4850E 2GB 1066 MHz Ram. Now the problem : When running the CPU on 1GHz i get lost frames with xine-vdpau on 720p content. The CPU utilization on this frequency is about 10%. When running the CPU on 1.8GHz everything is fine. And the CPU utilization is about 6%. So from the CPU utilization there could be no problem. Any ideas where the problem could be ? |

Hm. Intresting that this is ignored, since it's a know problem.
And nobody is willing to tell if it's a hardware limiting problem or a problem in the vdpau implementation. |

It's not being ignored; it just took a couple of hours for me to see the post.
Judging by the (limited) information here, it doesn't sound like it's a VDPAU issue. |

ebsi, do you have any problems like image corruption or system freezes? If no, could you write your driver, kernel and X versions
My system has a similar config and and it freezes with compiz.I am looking for the solution

Nvidia 8300 mGPU (Asus M3N78 PRO)
This is interesting. I have exactly the same MB, and a similar problem. I have as well already updates the BIOS a few times, up to 801 now. I had problems with Ubuntu 8.10 and likewise with 9.04 recently. So let's take it that we have to make with a wide-spread problem. Interesting is, that the system doesn't actually freeze, it only looks like. I can ssh into it, and everything is fine, no high loads, and in the end I can shut down cleanly. Then the actual bugs comes to light: Even when X shuts down, usually showing the logout messages, the ubuntu thermometer; in this case, the last, stuck, frozen, frame remains visible until the power goes off. So it is actually a bug, that for one reason or another prevents refreshing of the frame buffer, which actually gets inaccessible by the driver. This can be a problem of the nvidia driver, or the nvidia hardware. In any case, Nvidia is the party to debug this. |

FYI, the following thread has some information on AMD CPU throttling interaction with bus bandwidth:
