Default Switching TV standard on the fly?

Like pretty much every TV set sold in Germany these days, mine is multistandard, both PAL-B/G and NTSC-M is supported (but it's not a HD set).

Since multistandard TVs are so widespread nowadays, it would be great to be able to switch the TV standard on the fly (directly from MPlayer would be preferable), so that both 30 fps and 25 fps videos can be played decently and without tearing. Having to edit xorg.conf, restart X, and reconfigure Dynamic TwinView all the time is a major nuisance.

Is this possible? If yes, how? If not, please consider this an enhancement request!
