cracked laptop LCD

so bud picked up my laptop with his thumb on the damn screen and put a wonderful thumbprint crack in my laptop lcd. What do i do now? I hear its extremely expensive to replace just the screen and that your almost better off getting a new laptop. Well thats not exactly an option. Any ideas?

Between finding the correct display and the risk of further damaging your laptop I'd say you're pretty much screwed unless your friend offers to pay for the repairs.

You could also go for insurance fraud and say the laptop fell off a table and your friend caught it right before it hit the ground, but the screen got damaged or something similar.

Look up what panel is compatible with your laptop (post your laptop info here and I will look) and just buy a replacement on ebay. I did it with mine. works great and is easy to do.

sony Vaio VGN-NR330E was originally given as a gift and was bought at bestbuy. I believe its a 15.4 "

He is paying the repair costs. I've see him pick up my laptop numerous times using the thumb as the front brace on the screen and his other fingers holding the back. I've yelled at him everytime. This was just complete disregard on his part so he will be picking up the whole bill. I'm just not trying to put him into debt either.

Btw insurance fraud is out of the question, im trying to become a police officer

Just search Ebay... theres one for cheap. Replacing it is as easy as opening the case top and unplugging the old and plugging in the new.

58 bucks not bad, plus its a LG screen

awesome, btw what is a "glossy" screen. I know absolutely nothing about lcd's! Is that different then what i have?

How did you manage to pry it open without breaking the plastic? I couldn't open mine no matter how hard I tried..

Replacing an LCD on a laptop is incredibly easy, maybe 20min worth of work. It is a more involved process unfortunately with Sony as they tend to have very strange build designs. So with that model laptop you're going to have a ton of different sized screws to take out.

Just make sure you label each screw as you take it out otherwise you'll put a longer screw in the wrong place and go right through something.
