Default Cant play Steam offline?

I brought my PC to work to check out games on a 120in screen today. I went to play CoD W@W (purchased through Steam) and it will not let me play unless I can login to Steam? WTF? I am unable to get an internet connection in that room. If there is not an easy way to get passed that I will never buy anything on Steam again.

Well you gotta log in (aka put your password in) but it will fail to connect and then prompt you to play in offline mode.

I never had problems with offline mode, I often bring my laptop with me and can play using Steam in offline mode (since at&t wifi firewall is hardcore).

Well, I can't even get to the login part, it just says I'm off line, I click ok and it shuts down Steam. WOW! No wonder people use counsels. I have nothing but trouble all the time. I don't want to sound like a whiner but man! It always seems like I half to adjust settings, play around with this, play around with that, login here, login there, put my DVD in so I can play, type in my DVD key so I can install...oopse that didn't work, you need to call this number and reactivate your key code lol. I will start Crysis and it will be in windowed mode, I will put it back to full screen and it crashes. Can't play The Witcher because I already installed it in my old PC, e-mailed them and they never got back to me. Can't get sound out of the digital out (coax or optical) going into a Pioneer Elite SC-03 probably because HDMI sucks. This is just a small list of issues, I mean come on! WTF? Can we have some standardization?

I think I will be moving to councils my next time around.....

Um, Steam restarts... it's not shutting down. You gotta let it restart on its own.

Without trying to sound like a total jerk, those problems you mention seem to be caused by yourself and not the products. The whole point of PC gaming is that it gives us much much more freedom in comparison to consoles. I was actually reading something that describes your situation perfectly just this morning, take a look:

Indeed every single major game which is released these days is labelled as being the "buggiest game ever", with hundreds of people flooding the game's forums to complain about how shoddy that particular game is, demanding patches and refunds in angry post after angry post. I'm not exaggerating either, it's now occurring for every single major game released, and quite frankly, it's become somewhat of a joke in my opinion. When I play every single one of these games, and write guides for them, testing them for hours and hours, I'm thoroughly confused as to how people can claim they are so buggy when I see no evidence of it. Either I'm the luckiest person alive, or there's something else at work here.

The simple truth of the matter is that PC gaming is a dual-edged sword. The very fact that a PC allows us so much freedom of choice as to what type of hardware we use, and what type of software we install on it, also results in much greater potential for a wide range of problems. PCs are not a 'plug and play' gaming machine, and never have been. If you want to just pop your game in the drive and play without a second thought, you'll need to do your gaming on a console. As a PC owner you need to be under no illusion that a PC requires regular optimization, maintenance and great care as to what you install on it. That's where I've tried as much as possible to give PC users the resources to do exactly that through my free guides. Ultimately however, as a gamer you have two choices: complain endlessly, blame the 'greedy developers', constantly beg for help and keep scratching your head over 'mysterious' crashes and issues. Or bite the bullet, learn more about your PC, learn how to configure, optimize and troubleshoot it properly, and wave goodbye to your PC gaming woes.

Yeah, offline mode works. Sometimes a game won't launch in offline mode though... I am not sure why.

Here is what it says. "Steam offline mode is unavailable because the is no Steam login information stored on this computer" That brings up another issue I forgot about. When I start Steam is ALWAYS ask for a password. I click on "remember password" (it always set to that) but for some reason it will not store the password. It worked fine in the past, but not on this new build.

Steam needs to be online at least once and verify your games... the error you're getting means you never had that computer online with Steam and your account before.

I hate to think off all the time of my life I have wasted on PC issues lol. Its always something. I understand a lot of it is my own fault but damn! Does it really need to be this complicated? I have had many driver issues in the past (still having some) those are not my fault. X-plane would run horrible (if I could even get it started that day) on my HD4850. Runs great on my GTX-285 because Nvidia has good OpenGL support. I spent many hours trying to get X-Plane to work.

LMFAO! I just took my PC out of the projector room to hook it up to a 60in Pioneer Elite plasma. I tried playing Crysis, it kept loading in windowed mode, so when I try to put it in full screen the game crashes, like always! Then, while just at my home screen of Windows the picture goes out LOL! Can't get it back on to save my life! I know, I know, It's allllll my fault. Yea it my fault for buying into PC gaming
