Default Intel to discontinue Core i7 920 & 940 CPUs

http://www.bit-tech.net/news/hardwar...920-940-cpus/1

Here will be no more cheaper Core i7 CPUs soon as Intel now focus LGA-1366 for the high end Extreme Editions, workstation, and SMP boards. When here will be new 32nm LGA 1366 CPUs faster than i7 920, i7 840 and i7 950 so you have two choices: 1. Buy the most expensive 32nm Core i7 Extreme Edition CPU or... 2. Buy new 32nm Core i5 CPU and LGA 1156 motherboard cheaper.

Oh what a mess, glad I got AM2+ board that will accept AM3 CPUs.

Found Intel CPU roadmap, it showed Core i7 CPUs will be phase out in end of Q2 2009 and replace it with Core i5 CPUs in Q3. LGA 1366 will continue to live on with Core i7 Extreme.

i920 will be still made. That information is incorrect. They didn't discountinue i920 and i940 but they are selling new revision D0 and revision C0 is the history. I have C0 revision, but i will pick D0 revision and run that CPU 4.0-4.2 Ghz on stock voltage. Btw if this information is somehow true, Intel has no ****ing clue what they are doing. It will hurt their butt badly. Socket LGA 1156 has no value at all, and good luck selling that. Since its performance will be worse then i7 people will go with AMD, and can't wait for that happen because Intel will deserve that for being stupid. They should keep i7 line and make i910, i900 CPU for the price of $150, $240 and that's all to it. They should discounte socket 775 and replaced with tri and dual core i7 based CPUs.

They haven't yet announced the discontinuation of said processors as they just released the new revisions, but as the roadmap clearly tells us this is going to happen sometime in the third quarter. So there's still plenty of time for me to get a D0.

Well Lee, if it makes you feel any better, you can always spend a little time making your signature take up less than a page on some screens
