Watched the gameplay vids. Disappointing, its more or less the same game, its actually worse when i think about it. I'll still pick this game up when its released. But valve better wake up soon or they'll get a good smacking from the community...

How do you have a sequel for what are essentially 4 stand alone 'movies?

My bet is this L4D2 consists of a bunch of what was intended to be DLC at the start.

In short - they lied, period.
They didnt lie, plans change, they didnt promise anything, merely stating thats what their plans consisted of.
I agree though they should still put out some new campaigns for the original, but noone has said they wont be, and it might be too soon to release a sequel(its been less then a year).
However, what they stated they were planning to add to L4D, isnt as much as the vast changes made to L4D2, yes, the core gameplay is still the same, I would hardly call it a sequel if the gameplay was radically changed, however there is so many new additions, in terms of pure content, I dont see why they cant package it up as a sequel, its got alot more new content then the original game had, not to mention including the original content in it aswell.
In all truth though, the only thing that should be of any concern is price, IMO I am not a fan of purchased "DLC", or any kind of microtransactions, because if you think about it, how much would a campaign cost? $10? new weapons? $2? new characters? $5? You're look at much more then the cost of whats included in L4D2.
Charging full retail price for L4D2 doesnt sit well with me either, but I have no reason to believe they will, I mean L4D was never the cost of a full game, and right now its only $39.99(AUD), which is less then half of our retail price(normally at least $89AUD).

They played semantics.

This is what gets me. The game did launch for full price here in the states, which isn't a problem given the number of hours it's good for, probably more than any other game I've owned.

I think the launch price for 2 is going to decide just how pissed the community really gets. If it's priced as an expansion, at least for current owners, that's reasonable. I just hope they don't ask full price again, because I will buy it eventually LOL...

16,000 members, Valve can't just ignore it and hope it goes away now. They have to proactively quell this rebellion, either by compromising or convincing. My bet is the latter which I don't think will work.

I don't see why they just didn't slowly release small DLC packs for this stuff. They could've released the new weapons in one, new characters in another, then the other movies. We all know that Valve isn't hurting in this "recession"

What are 16,000 people going to do? The original game sold like 3 million copies.

I agree Valve made statements which led people to believe L4D would get TF2-style DLC for free, and it didn't (as of yet), and that is a little suspect. Still though, L4D was well worth $50 or whatever you paid for it, so it's hard to feel fleeced.

People expecting L4D2 to be completely free DLC for first game? lol... L4D2 is even bigger than L4D alone so I doubt it'll happen.

Only lower price will work.

Stop acting like the size of L4D2 is double that of the original... its only a single map, a single weapon and a single new monster more then the original.

wtf? 5 campaigns is a single map? ax, frying pan, chainsaw, silenced sub-machine gun, incendiary ammo is only 1 weapon? though you're right about the monster, apart from the different skinned zombies, the only new zombie I saw was the charger(doesnt mean there isnt more, but until I see it there is only 1, not that its a bad thing).
However, there is other improvements that cant be stated with numbers, the witch for example, can now wander around, instead of staying in one place, which can make it harder to avoid her if you even plan to, not to mention its only the first showing of L4D2, wouldnt suprise me...ahem, if there was more suprises.

The original had 4 campaigns... 5 campaigns is one more then the original... fail math did we? I don't consider Melee weapons as new weapons since well you can melee with the guns... no reason to add them other to give players something they think is new. New ammo? Thats not a weapon... Oh and who said the silenced MG was new... they just added a silencer to the current MG...
