Default 180.60 - PowerMizer disabled?

I have a Gigabyte GV-NX96T512HP 9600 GT capable of PowerMizing.

But it does not work anymore. Look at the attached screenshot.

The clocks stay constant at 720/1008 MHz.

Hi jtsn.

How long did you look at the states in nvidia-settings? For me the throtteling mechanism in 180.60 is reacting a bit slow, but much better than in the 185.x.x series.

Regards

Minutes, it never changes. But I found the trigger of this bug: When I disable one of the VGA outputs the PowerMizer works again (state changes after seconds).

As I've mentioned before, the driver may need to keep the GPU in a higher performance level to be able to drive multiple screens or high resolutions. That is expected behavior.

Aaron,
were there changes in this regard between the 180 and 185 series?

All versions up to 180.60 will keep my GPU (8600M GS 512MB) on lvl 0 while driving both the laptop's screen and my external (via HDMI) display at 1680x1050 using TwinView Clone.

185.x drivers keep the performance level set to 2 (maximum).

There were some bug fixes, yes.

So 180's behaviour is considered buggy? Which I find strange, since I've never had a problem with performance level 0 and two 1680x1050 displays.
For me, 185 is not usable due to its locking the GPU in full performance mode. This makes a difference of more than 10 in system temperature + fan noise.

My old 8800GT only had one powermizer level, but I just got a new GTX260 and it has three levels. I always have 2 monitors running in twinview, and I have the same problem. The card won't drop below the highest performance level with 185.18.14. I'm switching back to 180.60, because I would rather have powermizer drop the performance level when the card is idle. I think that should be the default behavior even with twinview... i wouldn't call it buggy.

Same here with 185.18.14 and Geforce 9600M GT. Before 180.60 the Powermizer was always running in level 0/1 (of 3). Now it's running in high performance all the time. Tried all the settings but nope.
