Default Xinerama mode even without 2nd display?

When I connect a 2nd display to may laptop and I start Xorg it comes up fine (and now stable) in Xinerama mode. When I start Xorg before connecting the display, it comes up in the normal mode for the LCD 1920x1200 of the laptop. Is there a way to switch later to Xinerama after Xorg start and connect of 2nd display? without restarting X, ofc :-)

I don't believe so. You should still be able to light up the second display via dynamic TwinView, though.
