Default Tesla on Sun x4450 won't boot when PCI cards connected to Tesla

Has anyone seen this issue? I have the Tesla S870 1U attached to my Sun x4450 that's running Linux (Centos5.2). The system will not boot if I attach the GPU via the cables to the two PCI-e cards that are in the Sun chassis.

If I unplug from the Tesla 1U, the system will boot, if they are connected later, none of the Cuda software will work, reporting that no device is connected.

Any advice would be helpful.
