My brother and I bought a Technet subscription a couple years ago and we're still using the Vista Ultimate x64 license from it. I've probably installed the OS 3-4 times personally (through 2 or 3 systems) and he's used it 2-3 times for his two PCs. Its never given us an issue, even after our one year Technet subscription expired.

I also got a copy of XP Pro, Vista Business, Office 2007 (which is the worst office program I've ever used) and a crap load of other software and dozens of license keys. Not bad for $350, which my brother and I split.

I highly recommend a Technet subscription if you need a bunch of software, but the upgrade preorder prices for Windows 7 right now are hard to beat if you just want to go from Vista to 7.

I don't believe that is true. Once your sub is over you just can't download or get new keys I don't remember reading anything in the EULA that says you have to stop using the software.

Yep.

You can't get new software but the keys you have still work. I actually emailed them about this before getting a subscription.

you sure about that? its an subscription service. normally when subscription runs out you don't get to keep what you had.

napster, zune, etc.. you get all the music, but if you stop paying, you don't get to keep it.

It's not the same with Technet. I remember reading the EULA for the service to make sure, so long as you are not using the software in a production capacity the licenses are good to use. So for techie people with lots of computers at home technet is the best bargain. Though from the people who had their technet sub expire recently MS has the right to call you up and pester you to resubscribe when the time comes .

I caved, canceled my Amazon order, and bought one of these subscriptions. I've been wanting to deep-dive into Office 2007, and later 2010 anyway.

I wish Office Mac was included, though.
