Default 3 GPU & 6 Screen Config Problem

I have 6 screens (3 across on 2 rows) and 3 x nvidia 9500 GT running on Ubuntu 9.04 (64-bit).

I've been able to get it working to use 4 screens with 2 x 9500's, but when I add the 3rd card, X (gdm) will not start. I am running driver 180.44, but I have tried 173 (both Ubuntu bundled) and also 180.51. It doesn't appear to me to be the driver as the issue, since there are no errors in the Xorg.0.log. In fact, all 6 screens show up as being detected properly, as well as all 3 GPUs.

I run into no errors in /var/log/Xorg.0.log (included, it shows that all 3 cards and 6 monitors are detected and drivers appear to load properly for all 3 cards) and my xorg.conf is included. I don't have any screens destined for my 3rd card (PCI:1:0:0) yet, because I haven't gotten that far.

This config works if I take out the 3rd card. If anyone can help, it'd be much appreciated.

Xorg.0.log will be posted in subsequent message, as it is too large to post on this same message.

Attached is Xorg.0.log. It was too large to include directly in the post.

Any time there exists more than one Device section for a particular card (a particular BusID, specifically), then the section must have a Screen identifier. These start with 0. I believe this must be specified regardless if you are using it or not.

Does X simply refuse to come up if you have 3 cards in?

I have been working with a 6-screen setup for the last few weeks, and early on I had a little trouble running with 3 cards. I was able to *configure* it for less than 6 outputs, and get up into X. If I ran nvidia-settings at that point, it would not list all of the cards. Turned out to be a problem memory mapping all of the cards -- switching up to 64-bit Linux resolved that.

What exactly is the nature of your failure? Does X refuse to configure 6 cards, or does it refuse to come up at all if you have 6 cards in the machine?

mattty - X does not start. X will start if I have 2 cards installed in the system (same config), but it won't start with the 3rd card. It will just go into simple mode, which doesn't give me options to the NVIDIA settings. I am also running Ubuntu 64 bit. All cards are loading properly according to the X log....

I tried associating a screen with the other device, but it is still failing.

Attached are updated Log and Config files.

Any help, or even ideas are much appreciated.

I've recently tried another video card, since the 3 of the 9500's didn't work. I am getting closer, but it still isn't working.

Attached are newer xorg.conf and Xorg.0.log files. I would really appreciate any feedback if anyone had it.

Thanks-
