Never been a big fan of the MechWarrior series myself, I just did quick plays. I never got deep or into the story.

MechWarrior 2 was the first true 3d game I played, back when it was in DOS. It blew my mind away, I thought it had the most amazing graphics at the time and the gameplay was highly addictive. I really felt like I was really controlling these huge machines and wrecking havoc. Those were the days......

I never got into MechWarrior 3, not sure why but It didn't feel as fun as 2. MechWarrior 4, I played for a little bit, had more fun with 4 than 3, liked the improvement in graphics and the online play.

Can't for Living Legends and the reboot of a long awaited series! WIN WIN FOR ALL!

Anyone do the online clans back in the early days? If so, I know you remember Khan Gunny and his Sommoner from Clan Ghost bear. We used to do online ladders every weekend to capture planets, true to FASA, not to mention the nightly clan battles.

I would say at one point there were over 200 of us and the average players age was probably 25-30 years old. That was the best online play of any game I've ever been hooked on!

I see no "strategy" in that vid... it looks like what someone said earlier, the guy with the better mech won. That or the guy just had better aim since the one guys missles kept flying by the other guy...

The teamwork video is awesome especially for the music

and that Atlas pilot is a complete n00b! he kept missing like 90% of his shots! wtf?
generally though, the Gladiator is one of the most effective/powerful mechs in MW4 (loadout, heat, jump jets.. etc)
and one more thing to note .. the Fafnir can be an easy target due to its huge size and weak center torso .. a well aimed salvo and some PPC/Laser shots on its center torso can ensure a quick kill. Thats why its good to have it protected by some med-heavy mechs IMO.

On a quick look people might think these matches are just straightforward where heavier mechs win, which is completely not true. They actually involve so many factors such as: weapon usage priorities and management (as in which weapon to use and when), the critical usage of alpha-strike, good aiming and prioritizing mech body parts (which also involves experience in the weak parts of each mech.. just like i mentioned about the Fafnir above), managing heat, use of jumpjets, customizing the loadouts, mech configs/mods that are managed prior to game-start (includes speed-to-weight ratio, heat management, ammo, installed devices such as enhanced optics, radar jammer..etc), and also taking advantage of the climate changes for maps where matches take place (desert areas produce more heat problems, snow= less heat and thus ability to use high energy weapons such large lasers and PPC's) ....to name some factors.

It's not an uncommon factor in games that gear affects the outcome of battles. It's just like other simulators with different airplanes, tanks and weapons. But if it is balanced correctly it is still fun and possible to win and do well with lesser equipment.

Will be interesting to see what MW5 brings to the table. They got a lot to live up too, while still trying to interest a large new group of players. Just hope they don't make too many compromises.
